Paul Lewis
Paul has practised for a number of years in the City of Newport as a criminal lawyer, building up a credible reputation and maintaining a large client base. He is a partner in the firm and heads the Criminal Department. Paul is both a court and a police station duty solicitor. 
Paul Philpott
Paul has practised in the criminal law for over 20 years, for many years as a senior legal adviser to the magistracy and, since 1996, as a solicitor with this firm. Paul is a partner in the firm and is both a court and a police station duty solicitor. Although dealing with much of the day-to-day court and police station work, Paul also specializes in more complex areas such as breaches of consumer law, food hygiene and environmental offences. 
Sophie Toms, LLB
Sophie is one of our lawyers who has been trained and developed within the firm. She joined as a trainee solicitor in 2000, qualified in 2001 and became a partner in 2003 - a meteoric rise in the legal profession which recognises her outstanding skills as a criminal advocate. Sophie is also a court and a police station duty solicitor. 
Stefanie Scanlan, LLB
Stefanie, who has experience as a Magistrates Court Legal Adviser in the Adult, Licencing and Youth Courts, has been with the firm since 2003: she was made a partner in 2005 in recognition of her exceptional abilities. Stefanie is both a Court and a Police Station Duty Solicitor and now specializes in representing young offenders appearing before the Youth Court. 
Andrew Holtham
After initially training in Magisterial Law in 1990, Andrew has worked continuously in private legal practice in the field of criminal law: he became an Accredited Police Station Representative in 1995 and joined Hodson, Parsons in 1996. As well as advising clients at Police Stations, Andrew is now part of our team dealing with the preparation of more serious criminal cases being tried in the Crown Court. 
Colin Smith
Colin has been with the firm since 1998 and is an Accredited Police Station Representative. He represents clients who have been arrested for criminal offences whilst they are in custody in the police station. He is a member of the Crown Court team and is responsible for the preparation of criminal cases in the Crown Court and assisting barristers representing our clients. 
Daniel Heirene
Daniel Heirene is another of the firms legal talents who has been trained within the firm. Daniel started with us in 2001 undertaking general administrative duites, the firm recognising his potential progressed him within the field of Criminal Law and he is now an Accredited Police Station Representative. Daniel has always specialised in Criminal Law and is a member of our Crown Court team, dealing with the more serious Criminal Law cases that are proceeding in the Crown Court. 
Family and Matrimonial Department
Jayne Chandler, LLB
Jayne qualified as a solicitor in 1999 and has over ten years of experience of Family Law. Jayne is a partner and heads the Family Department: she is a member of the Law Society Family Panel, whose members have to demonstrate proven experience and expertise in this field of law.
Jayne Deals with all aspects of family work: divorce, financial matters following relationship breakdown and disputes about children including both private law matters (issues between parents and family members) and public law (children being taken into care by a local authority). 
Julianne Hamling, LLB
Julianne qualified as a solicitor in 2001, but has ten years experience in family law, having done most of her training in that field of law. Julianne joined the firm in 2002 and became a partner on 1st April 2008.
Julianne undertakes a wide range of family work including divorce and separation proceedings and financial disputes between both married couples and unmarried couples. She also deals with contact and residence disputes in relation to children on behalf of parents and other family members including grandparents. Other areas of her work include applying for injunctions to provide protection to victims of domestic abuse and/or harassment. In addition Julianne also represents parents in child care cases where children have been placed in foster care by Social Services and where the Department is working with the family. 
Michelle Jones, LLB
Michelle completed her studies at Cardiff University in 2004 and then joined the HPJV Family Department in March 2005 as a paralegal. She is a qualified solicitor and was admitted on 2nd January 2008. Michelle assists in and undertakes a variety of work including contact and residence disputes, injunctions and cases where children are taken into the care of a local authority. Michelle also undertakes divorce and separation cases including resolving financial disputes. 
Hannah Price, LLB
Hannah completed her degree studies at the University of Glamorgan in 2006 and is currently undertaking her Legal practice Certificate. She
joined hpjv family department in March 2007. Hannah assists in a variety of work including contact and residence disputes, injunctions, ancillary
relief and cases where children are taken into the care of the local authority. 
Rhian Parsons, LLB
Rhian graduated from Plymouth University in 2006. In 2007 she completed her Legal Practice Course at Cardiff University. Rhian joined HPJV in
August 2007 and commenced her training in July 2008 to qualify as a solicitor. Rhian assists in, and undertakes a variety of family law matters including contact, residence, injunctions, warning letters, divorce, ancillary relief proceedings, matters including contact and assists in cases where children have been taken into care of the local authority. 
Housing, Debt and Welfare Benefits Department
Emma Verrier, LLB
Emma qualified as a solicitor in 1998 and is a specialist housing and family lawyer who also undertakes cases in debt and welfare benefits. Emma has eleven years experience and joined the firm in December 2008. Emma has had experience in both the private and public sector having previously owned her own firm worked for the Council.
Emma provides specialist housing advice to both landlords and tenants whether in social housing or private housing on a wide range of housing disputes such as repossessions, ASBI's and ASBO's, homelessness issues, and problems regarding tenancy disputes. Emma also represents clients in respect of their debt recovery disputes and credit management which include individual voluntary arrangements, debt management and issues of re-mortgaging and bankruptcy. Emma also provides advice to clients who have difficulties regarding all welfare benefits including representing clients in appeals and reviews of their benefits. 
Conveyancing and Property Department
Peter N Binnersley, LLB
Peter qualified as a Solicitor in 1981 after training with the old Newport firm of Adey's he has spent the whole of his legal career in Newport and joined Hodson Parsons as a partner in 1984.
Specialising in all aspects of residential conveyancing including sale, purchase, mortgaging, re-mortgaging and transfers of equity, Peter is Head of the Conveyancing Department. 
Tracey Edwards, F.Inst.L.Ex
In 1996 Tracey arrived at HPJV as a Secretary to one of the partners and during the following years successfully trained, part-time, as a legal executive by means of day-release at Newport College, whilst still working for us.
Qualifying in 2005 (she is now a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives) and with 20 years practical experience in conveyancing and property work, Tracey is now Deputy Head of Conveyancing, dealing with all aspects of residential conveyancing work including sales, purchases, re-mortgages and specialising more particularly in shared equity, shared ownership and transfers of equity matters.
Tracey is also the firm's IT Administrator, steering the firm toward using technology to deliver a high quality, efficient service to all our clients.

Bruno Rimola, LLM
Bruno has spent all his professional life with the firm. After leaving university Bruno completed his legal training as an Articled Clerk with Hodson Parsons, qualifying as a solicitor in 1986 and becoming a partner in 1990 - he is now the Managing Partner at Hodson Parsons James & Vaux.
Over the 25 years he has been with us, Bruno has built up a solid professional reputation for conducting both Criminal and Civil Litigation matters and has developed particular expertise in Personal Injury work - he has been accepted as a Senior Litigator with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers - a nationwide accreditation scheme for specialist personal injury lawyers. In addition also deals with claims and actions against the Police and was responsible for HPJV being the first firm in Wales to be given a Legal Aid quality franchise by the Legal Services Commission in this particular field of law.
